Demidov’s signature Etudes (improvisational exercises with a given text) are the foundation and the peak, the roots and the crown, of the whole Organic Acting Technique. The Etudes tune the actor’s creative perception and enable the actor to be taken straight to the subconscious, straight to the seat of our creativity, and to avoid intellectual analysis and reasoning.

The Etudes are our partner scales exercises, and as a musician practises daily scales, these form part of our regular practice, whether you are new to the work or have been in the work for some time. They act as a kind of tuning fork towards the truth, they bring us into the here and now, enable us to truly hear and truly see, and train in us the ability to surrender to the truth of our experience and to allow that truth to be fully expressed. They cultivate our creative freedom, spontaneity and faith in our imaginary life.

The Demidov School approaches the creative process as a whole (everything is already there) and invites the actor to surrender to the moment with trust in their creative instinct and their sufficiency (I am enough).

 In this Etudes Series, we will work with:
– Technique of the Beginning: I trust the life that is already there and follow it
– Technique of Free Reaction: I follow my impulses and let them develop
– Technique of Non-Redirection: I surrender completely to an impression so that it continues to evolve on its own.

The Etudes series is open to actors new to the work, and to actors who are familiar with it and want to take this opportunity to keep practising.
The Etudes Series will be led by Demidov Studio Vienna Director Andrei Biziorek.
